SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Police are investigating a purse snatching that occurred Thursday afternoon in downtown Shreveport.

Shreveport Police Department Spokesperson Sgt. Bill Goodin says a little after 1 p.m., officers arrived at an alleyway near Fannin Street and Louisiana Avenue after a female reported that she was approached from behind by a man while she was looking for something in the back floorboard of her parked car.

Investigators say the man, who had a small knife, ordered the victim into her car but she refused. The two struggled, during which the woman was cut on her head and forearm. The suspect grabbed the woman's purse and then fled on foot. The victim was taken to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what have been described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives describe the suspect as a black male wearing a knit stocking cap. Investigators are working to identify and arrest the suspect.

Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers is offering a $400 reward for information about the identity of this suspect. Anyone with any information about this case should call 318-673-7373.
