WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – While deep budget cuts mean a world
of change for many schools in the state, UNCW is finding small ways to make a
big impact.
After the school had to cut positions the house keeping
staff lost ten workers. The university
has now decided to have some folks take out their own trash.
In many offices there is a personal-sized trash can for
recycling without a garbage bag lining in it and a miniature trash bag and can
attached.
Personnel in those offices are asked to carry their trash
down the hall to a larger bin.
Physical Plant Director Tom Freshwaters said this process
has saved UNCW around $25,000 in material costs.
