NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) –The Sierra Club in the Cape Fear Area will focus volunteer efforts on lobbying state legislators.
The Volunteer Lobbyist Corps will connect Sierra Club members with state legislators, according to Volunteer Coordinator Travis Hargett. Hargett met with local volunteers at Halyburton Park in New Hanover County Monday night.
The idea is to keep in constant contact with State Senators and Representatives, according to Hargett. He said conversation is the most important tool.
"It's easy to delete an email or hang up the phone," said Hargett, "so it's really putting a face on our issues."
Every volunteer lobbyist is encouraged to meet with his or her "adopted" legislator at least once in person, according to Hargett.
