NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina Coastal Reserve wants you to know more about Masonboro Reserve, and you can do just that at the new Masonboro Café events.

The area's Site Manager Hope Sutton said the meetings are meant to be an informal way for folks to learn about the area. Plus, Sutton said she can learn from the people that attend too.

"It's important for me to be able to feed their thoughts into the overall conversation about how to deal with certain topics on site," said Sutton.

The area has its own non-profit in Friends of the Reserve. The group's president Joanne Hercke said these casual sessions provide correct information about the future of Masonboro Island.

"There's a lot of talk about the island," said Hercke. "So we want to be sure that people can hear from the staff about what's going on."

Members of Masonboro.org also participated in Monday's Masonboro Café. The volunteer organization is dedicated to the proper use and cleanliness of the island.

Future café events will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Surf House in Wilmington and Carolina Beach. Dates and locations are listed below:

  • March 19 at 250 Racine Dr. in Wilmington
  • April 16 at 604 N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach
  • May 21 at 250 Racine Dr. in Wilmington
