RALEIGH, NC (WECT) – A couple from Clinton won $100,000 playing the NASCAR® scratch-off game, Ultimate Fan, according to North Carolina Education Lottery officials.

One Saturday, Carol and Duane Burton were doing their weekly errands when they stopped, per usual, at the SLZ on East Boulevard to buy gas and lottery tickets.

The couple then returned home, played the lottery, and realized that they were winners.

"She said, ‘You had better look at this,' and slid it across the table," said Duane, who is a purchasing agent for a building supply store.

According to Carol, her husband simply picked up the ticket and looked at it for a while. "Then he gets this big old smile on his face," she said.

Duane says they will use the winnings to help pay for education of their seven grandchildren, as well as work on some home improvements.

The Burtons they received a total of $68,001 after taxes were withheld.
