Money in a Minute: Saving money on produce hits close to home
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Some people feel like they can only save money on the cheap food, like processed junk food. But, we're going to show you how to save up to half off on produce.
Some people feel like they can never save money on the healthy things, but that's not true at all these days. First of all, if you want to start saving money on produce, get out of the grocery store and into a farmer's market.
For example, at Carolina Farmin' in Wilmington, you can find a deal on produce and local goods year round. Wherever you live, there is bound to be a farmers market similar to the Carolina Farmin'. Local markets are where you can find a ton of local produce at a reasonable price, especially if you buy what's in season.
When we went to the market, we found strawberries for less than $2.00 a pound. At a "normal" grocery store, we found strawberries for more than double that.
Another idea—check out a website called localharvest.org to see the local farms in your area. All you have to do is type in your zip code to see where you can find local goods.
