Warner Bros. previously shot 'One Tree Hill' in the region.
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wilmington will have another production in the works this summer. NBC's new Warner Bros. Television series Revolutionwill be filmed in the Port City.
According to a Wilmington Regional Film Commission Director Johnny Griffin, the production team will employ about 125 people full time, hundreds of extras part time, and spend millions of dollars in the regional economy.
"Hopefully it'll last for many years like we have with One Tree Hill and Dawson's Creek and it'll allow us to have a continual exposure in the region on TV every week," Griffin said.
Griffin said TV series often have more of an influence on tourism and giving the area continued exposure.
"A lot of times you have films shoot here and then by the time the film comes out, the project isn't shooting here anymore and the buzz is gone," he said. "But this allows us to be able to talk about a current project that's here."
"Obviously, this is exciting news for the movie and television industry in Wilmington and NC," said Johnny Griffin, Director of the Wilmington Regional Film Commission, Inc. "This region has always been identified with having the crew, talent, equipment, and facilities to economically produce film and television product as demonstrated by Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. Revolution now joins the list of productions which have chosen Wilmington as their place to live and work."
Warner Bros. Television chose to film the series in Wilmington because of its various locations, experienced crew and vendors, and the state's dependable film incentive.
One thing that might have worked in our favor is just the fact that this company has been here before," Griffin said. "They've worked in the community they know the quality they can get here so I certainly helped that weighs in our favor."
"We are excited to have a television series back in Wilmington that will create hundreds of jobs", said Aaron Syrett, Director of the North Carolina Film Office. "The North Carolina film credit continues to create high-quality, well-paying jobs for North Carolinian professionals who have the skills and capabilities to handle the sophisticated level of production that an epic series like Revolution demands."
The show's pilot episode was shot in Atlanta, Georgia. Griffin said the entire series, except for any on-location shoots, will be done in Wilmington.
According to IMDB.com, Revolution is a sci-fi series about "a group of people struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in world where all forms of energy have mysteriously disappeared." The series will feature Billy Burke and Giancarlo Esposito.
