Rouzer reaches "Young Gun" status in campaign

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Sen. David Rouzer, R-Johnston, has reached "Young Gun" status, according to a release from the National Republican Congressional Committee. Sen. Rouzer is running against incumbent Sen. Mike McIntyre for North Carolina's Seventh District Congressional seat.

"David Rouzer has met a series of rigorous goals that will put him in position to win on Election Day," NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, said in the news release. "The momentum behind his campaign is proof-positive that North Carolinians are fed up with President Obama and Mike McIntyre's policies that spend too much, tax too much and borrow too much at the expense of hard-working families. David Rouzer is leading the pack as Republicans continue to send a loud and clear message that we will hold Democrats accountable for their unpopular partisan agenda."

Rouzer defeated Ilario Pantano and Randy Crow in the primary election May 8th. The release says Rouzer has met organizational and fundraising benchmarks in achieving "Young Gun" status.  It does not specify what those benchmarks entail.

Federal Election Commission reports show Rouzer had raised more than $422,000 by the end of the first quarter of 2011. By comparison, McIntyre's first quarter report shows more than $1,043,000 in campaign contributions. Second-quarter financial reports are due by July 15, 2012.

Rouzer is currently serving a second term in the NC Senate, where he represents Johnston and Wayne counties.
