WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Both of the leading candidates for Governor in
North Carolina are on the airwaves with new campaign ads, which are airing in
Wilmington and other television markets across the state.
For Lieutenant Governor Walter
Dalton's campaign, "Talk" is its first ad of the general election campaign. It
shows Dalton in his hometown of Rutherfordton, and makes no mention of his main
opponent Pat McCrory. Dalton says he will be "a different type of Governor",
making reference to "years of scandal", which he says is "why people have lost
faith in their leaders." While not
mentioning them by name, it could be a reference to Governor Bev Perdue, who
was dogged by troubles with travel records and flights, and former Governor
Mike Easley, who faced campaign finance and real estate scandals. Dalton also
promises "to work hard, and always shoot straight with you."
"In this ad, Walter Dalton articulates his vision of
how he will move North Carolina forward," Dalton for Governor spokesman
Schorr Johnson said in a news release. "While Pat McCrory offers false
promises, no details, and negative attacks, Walter Dalton takes a positive
approach and tells us exactly what he would do--and not do--when elected."

McCrory, the former Mayor of Charlotte,
released his sixth ad of the general election campaign on Wednesday. Called
"Feet", it shows McCrory in a similar surrounding as previous ads, speaking
about natural resources being the key to creating jobs in North Carolina. "Let's
unleash their power safely and get back to being great again," McCrory says in
the spot.
In a release, McCrory spokesman Ricky
Diaz said the ad is "…talking
about Pat's plan to get North Carolina into the energy business and create jobs
to power the Carolina comeback."
Diaz also commented on Dalton's ad. "Walter Dalton is shamelessly attempting to
score cheap political points in a television ad while his hundreds of thousands
of dollars in stock options tell a completely different story," Diaz sent in an
e-mail to WECT. "North Carolina already has this kind of double talk in the
governor's office and Walter Dalton offers more of the same."
