WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Riverfest is officially underway in downtown Wilmington and organizers want you to know the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is open and will be all weekend. They hope you won't let traffic concerns keep you from heading downtown.
"The bridge is going to be open!" organizer Donna Worrell exclaimed. She is one of the coordinators of Riverfest.
You'll recall, last weekend, the bridge was closed causing massive headaches for those trying to get over the Cape Fear in both directions.
"We were told they were going to suspend work this weekend because of Riverfest," Worrell said. "That would have just been a mad decision to close it. We're expecting large crowds."
Every year, the event attracts 60,000 people to the riverfront for food and fun and it's all for a good cause.
Over the past 34 years, the event has donated $200,000 to Cape Fear Community College, helping with scholarships for students in the Marine Tech program.
If you are heading to Riverfest, city parking decks will be open and will cost $7 for an all-day pass. Otherwise, it will be free to park on the streets downtown.

While the bridge will be open this weekend, keep in mind, it will close again next weekend for repairs.
