A vote by aldermen in Wrightsville Beach means some students will go to class in a nearby church
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Aldermen
in Wrightsville Beach approved changing a zoning ordinance which will give the
local elementary school a little more room.
The ordinance change will allow
students to attend class at a church, to help ease the overcrowded conditions
at Wrightsville Beach Elementary School. School officials came to an agreement
to lease two classrooms at the Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, but needed
the zoning ordinance change to make it happen.
Aldermen only approved the change for
one year, not the requested two years. Mayor David Cignotti says if the school
system wants to lease the church space for a second school year, officials will
have to make another request.
