Columbus County couple charged with role in fatal accident
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Two people in Columbus County are charged in connection with an accident that killed a local man earlier this year, according to Alcohol Law Enforcement agents.
Lisa Caffee, 47 from Whiteville, is charged with giving alcoholic beverages to a person less than 21 years of age and aiding and abetting a person less than 21 years of age in the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Ronnie Caffee, 51 and also from Whiteville, faces charges of aiding and abetting a person less than 21 years of age in the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Agents say Ryan Hommel, 21 from Chadbourn, was killed May 3rd while riding in a car being driven by a nineteen year old man, Nicholas Wilkinson from Clarkton. The men had been at a party at Cafee's home that night.
Wilkinson faces a charge of felony death by motor vehicle. He was also charged with DWI, reckless driving and speeding 98 mph in a 55 mph zone.
