Valdosta State had to wonder if history was repeating itself.
The Blazers jumped to 24-0 lead over North Alabama but hold on for a 24-21 win in Florence, Alabama Saturday night.
VSU scored on their second play from scrimmage.
Quarterback Cayden Cochran completed a short pass to Gerald Ford who turned it into an 81-yard touchdown.
Daniel Anderson hit a field goal to increase the lead to 10-0.
Valdosta State then drove 65 yards in the second quarter with Cayden Cochran ending the drive with a touchdown on the QB sneak.
Valdosta State opened the second half with Seantavious Jones catching a 71-yard touchdown pass.
North Alabama scored their first touchdown midway through the third quarter and added two more scores in the fourth quarter.
Valdosta State is 5-2 and 2-1 in the Gulf South Conference with a home game next Saturday against Delta State.
Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
