RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Gubernatorial candidates Walter Dalton and Pat McCrory met for their second live televised debate Tuesday night at UNC-TV. The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters sponsored the debate, as it did October 3 when the two candidates met in the same studio.

Dalton and McCrory met for the first time on stage in Wilmington on June 23, at a debate sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Association. That event was not broadcast live.

During the first televised debate, the candidates sparred over a Dalton campaign video that featured black voters criticizing McCrory. Dalton also accused McCrory of being insensitive to black voters, for running a political TV ad showing a sheriff making what some leaders called insensitive remarks.

"You do not understand how offensive the ad was," Dalton said to McCrory during the debate. "You do not understand how offensive the 47% comment was."

McCrory also chided Dalton, calling the video "the low point in North Carolina politics. I didn't think it could get any lower than some of the things Governor Perdue did when I ran against her in 2008," McCrory said.

WECT's Jon Evans served on the panel of journalists asking questions of the candidates in the second debate.  Journalists from Charlotte and Durham were also on the panel for the second hour-long debate.

Editor's note: technical difficulties prohibited one of the questions from this debate from ending up on the finished product. The question featured the candidates talking about North Carolina's gas tax.
