PAC money still flowing into McIntyre-Rouzer race

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Another Political Action Committee has entered the picture when it comes to the Seventh District Congressional race between Mike McIntyre and David Rouzer.

The Congressional Leadership Fund today said it has released the first ad of what will be "a $575,000 television and digital ad campaign" in the district. The commercial called "Folks" is critical of incumbent Rep. McIntyre. It will air in the Raleigh-Durham television market, the newest part of the district following the redistricting done by the NC General Assembly. It is also the part of the district where Rouzer is strong, having served as state Senator from Johnston County for the past two terms.

"Washington changed Mike McIntyre," CLF Spokeswoman Brook Hougesen said in an e-mail. "After voting for trillions in wasteful spending and Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, it's time to bring him home."

CLF joins at least six other PAC's and outside groups spending big money in this race, according to the website opensecrets.org. The National Republican Congressional Committee, a conservative group, has spent $1.68M to date against McIntyre. It's joined by other conservative-leaning groups such as the YG Action Fund ($778,000), the YG Network (741,445) and Move American Forward Freedom PAC ($1,129).

"Mike McIntyre has a clear record of always trying to do what's best for North Carolina," said Lachlan McIntosh, McIntyre's campaign manager. "Washington, D.C. insiders can spend $4 million to lie about his record, but folks in our area know his character, his independence, and his plans to make our homes and communities better. And the national organizations who know his actual record that have traditionally endorsed Republicans have ALL endorsed McIntyre, because they don't listen to the rhetoric. They examined the record and have chosen McIntyre. These include: The NRA, US Chamber, NFIB small business association, National Right to Life, and the anti-illegal immigration group ALI-PAC, as well as the pro-family Concerned Women for America."

Liberal-leaning outside groups have also spent large amounts in this campaign, according to opensecrets.org.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee bought $1.5M worth of ads to date, including more than $188,000 in the last week alone. The House Majority PAC is on record spending $119,786 in this race as well.

A Rouzer spokesperson said they would not comment about outside groups because they have nothing to do with them.
