AUGUSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Albany State football crossed the final round bump before the Fountain City Classic after beating Benedict 24-13 in the Augusta City Classic.  The game was a homecoming of sorts for head coach Mike White who played his high school football at Westside High in Augusta.

After falling behind 6-0, the Rams responded with a 37 yard touchdown pass from Keenan Grissett pass to Tevin Isom with just 37 seconds remaining in the half.  The Dirty Blue defense stepped up on Benedict's ensuing possession when Marcavius Dudley returned an interception back for a touchdown giving ASU a 15-6 halftime lead.

The second half saw the ASU special teams come alive as the Rams notched two safeties and a Quintory Braswell kick return for a touchdown.

With Fort Valley's 26-19 win over Morehouse on Saturday, the Rams will take on the Wildcats in the Fountain City Classic next week with the winner being crowned SIAC East Division champs and earning a trip to the SIAC Championship game.
