A season of ups and downs ended on the downside for the Albany State football team. The Rams lost to Fort Valley 38-20 in the Fountain City Classic. It was a game with so much on the line. The two teams came in tied atop the SIAC East Division and the winner was set for a birth in the SIAC Championship game.
Fort Valley jumped out to a 26-6 halftime lead on 3 Antonio Henton touchdown passes. The only ASU score in the first half came on a 2 yard run by Richard Watson, Fort Valley blocked the extra point which was returned by Tracey White for the two point conversion.
The second half wasn't much better for Albany St. The Wildcats added a 7 yard touchdown run by Seth Hill and a safety taking a 35-6 lead into the 4th quarter. Nathan Hoyte managed two 4th quarter scores on the ground but it was much too late for the Rams. Albany State gave up 357 yards of total offense while managing just 71 yards on the ground.
Albany State is now unlikely to make the Division II playoffs and finishes its regular season with 6-4 overall record and a 5-2 SIAC record.
