New Hanover County released the official numbers for Decision 2012 on Friday.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – After working a long night
on Thursday, election officials released the official results for New Hanover County.
The votes were canvassed in New
Hanover County on Friday making the votes official.
"Canvass day is
considered the certification," said Marvin McFadyen, who is the board of
elections director. "It is expected to see numbers vary between election night
and canvass because of the additional avenues of the voting process that still
is in effect."
One of the most anticipated results
was the 7th Congressional district seat in Washington. Incumbent Mike McIntyre
held on to his win in New Hanover County. McIntyre ran against Republican
challenger David Rouzer.
The two came very close to each other
on election night. On Friday, the New Hanover County Board of Elections
announced that McIntyre had a total of 40,097. Rouzer received a total of
38,577 votes.
Eleven other counties also have to canvass
that race so there is still no official word of a winner.
As for the New Hanover County Board of
Commissioners, incumbent Jonathan Barfield and Derrick Hickey also came in very
close to each other.
Friday's results showed Barfield maintained
his lead. As a result, Hickey will not be able to ask for a recount.
