The holiday season is here which means Christmas trees are going up.
One local business is helping East Texans make sure you have a little more control over the tree you take home.
Trail Creek Farm is one of the largest Christmas tree farms in Texas and it's right in our own backyard.
When you're surrounded by about 10,000 Christmas trees you can't help but get into the holiday spirit.
"We're here to explore the Christmas tree farm. Most of my kids have never seen a Christmas tree farm. It's our first experience cutting down a tree and we're going to take it to the classroom, decorate it, and have a wonderful Christmas," says East Texas Christian Academy Pre-K teacher, Bethany Gamez.
Christmas trees of different shapes and sizes live on the farm.
The two types of trees you can find here are Virginia Pines and Leyland Cypress.
"When you pick your own tree you get what you want, and also, when you cut it down it's fresh. It hasn't been cut for a week ,or a month, or whatever. So it will last you until at least to the first of the year real easy, as long as you keep water in the bowl," says Trail Creek Farm Owner, Larry Hatch.
Hatch says it's the smiles and Christmas joy he sees on people's faces that makes his job, not really a job.
"People taking pictures and sending them to us. Showing that they've had an awesome time, that's what we like about it. How people come out here and enjoy our place. That is what its all about," says Hatch.
"So far it has been a wonderful experience. My kids have been phenomenal and it's wonderful to see their faces," says Gamez.
Trail Creek Farm is open Monday- Friday from Noon to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
