The husband of one of the victims in an East Texas double murder has been arrested in connection to the killings.
Cass County, Texas, deputies say they have John Byron Jones, 47, of Kildare, Texas, in custody for his alleged involvement in the murders of his estranged wife, 42-year-old Dyrika Jones, and 47-year-old Doyle Pollard.
Dyrika Jones and the suspect had been separated for several months when she was killed.
Deputies say Pollard and Jones were found shot to death in Pollard's home on County Road 4683 on November 26 by a co-worker after Pollard failed to show up for work at an automotive shop in Atlanta, Texas. Cass County sheriff's deputies and Texas Rangers were called to the scene to investigate.
According to an probable cause affidavit filed in Cass County for Jones' arrest, Dyrika Jones had filed an application for a protective order on her husband in September of 2011. In the application, she stated that she feared for her life.
The affidavit also describes the 911 call from Dyrika Jones' cell phone on the night of the murders, which was recorded by the Cass County Sheriff's Office. On that recording, a man's voice can be heard, saying "Put the phone down O'Neal." Another statement was "This is my wife, and you're ***** her." Several loud reports, which the investigator says sound like gunfire, can also be heard on the recording.
On Wednesday, Cass County investigators questioned Jones, who they say had been a person of interest from the beginning of the investigation. After additional evidence came to light, an arrest warrant was obtained for Jones, who was charged with capital murder.
Authorities say they are still awaiting reports from the crime lab. They do not believe any others were involved in the crime.
Jones is being held without bail at the Cass County Detention Center.
