CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WECT) – A man died early Wednesday morning after crashing his car into a tree and poll in Castle Hayne, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Officials say the crash happened in the 2600 block of Oakley Road in Castle Hayne, just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Highway Patrol said Edward Top Keaton, of Wilmington, died immediately after the crash. Troopers say speed was a factor in the crash.

According to New Hanover County Dispatch, the crash knocked down several power lines in the area. That left about 300 Progress Energy customers without power. According to Progress Energy's website, power was restored just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.
