Gov. Bev Perdue has selected three members of her office to judicial positions
RALEIGH, NC – With just days remaining in her term,
Governor Bev Perdue appointed three members of her administration to fill
judicial positions, and reappointed a current member of the bench to his seat.
Perdue appointed Mark Davis to the North Carolina Court of Appeals, filling the
vacancy created when Cheri Beasley was appointed to the state Supreme Court.
According to a release from the Governor's office, Davis served the past two
years as general counsel to Gov. Perdue. He also worked as a special deputy
attorney general in the North Carolina Department of Justice from 2006 to
2011.
Gov. Perdue
appointed Kendra Hill as a special superior court judge. Hill has
served as the Chief Ethics Officer and Deputy General Counsel for the Office of
the Governor since 2009. She previously spent nine years as Assistant Legal
Counsel for the North Carolina School Boards Association.
Reuben F. Young,
who currently serves as Secretary of the North Carolina Department of
Public Safety, was appointed as a special superior court judge. Young
worked in the NC Department of Justice for six years before moving to the
Governor's office, where he served as deputy legal counsel and then chief legal
counsel.
Gov. Perdue also
reappointed Judge Calvin E. Murphy as a special superior court judge,
where he has served since 2007. In 2010, Chief Justice Sarah Parker appointed
Murphy to serve on North Carolina's Business Court as a special superior court
judge for complex business cases.
In a statement accompanying the release, Gov. Perdue said
"I am pleased and proud to appoint these outstanding public servants to
judicial positions serving the people of North Carolina. I know they will
perform their duties with distinction and honor."
