WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - There's a musical Mother Goose mash-up performing at Thalian Hall.
Every year, Pied Piper Theatre, with the help of the Junior League of Wilmington, performs a show for local first and second graders.
This year's musical is called Drury Lane and it features many of the characters from the beloved Mother Goose nursery rhymes, such as Mother Hubbard, Simple Simon, Little Bo Peep and Old King Cole.
The students learn some of the music ahead of time and are encouraged to sing along, but that's not the only lesson they learn.
"We're kind of inspiring them and trying to get them to do theater also when they get older," said actor Aidan Malone. "It definitely inspired me because I remember coming here and I was like, wow this is so awesome. It's just a good chance to give kids a chance they don't have usually to see theater."
"Some kids kind of stick to one specific group, and they need to branch out and see what else there is to choose from," said actress Lily Zukerman. "There's a message at the end that inspires them to just let their creative energy flow and just to learn the messages that come with all of these fables."
Most of the shows are just for the students, but there is one public performance.
