WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Work started in September 2011 on the Courtyard Marriott at the corner of Grace and Second streets in Downtown Wilmington, and it was originally said that it would take about a year to build.
Now, leaders with the project say they are not behind, and that the project is about halfway done.
"I know the construction has moved slowly on that project, but they seem to be making a lot of progress," said Mayor Bill Saffo.
"I see the cranes and a lot of people working out there today and it continues to go up and we're looking forward to that 125 room Marriott to be complete. It's a $15 million private investment."
We reached out to the owners of the hotel to see what's taking so long, but they have not returned our phone calls.
The project superintendent told WECT.com they are halfway done with the construction. There are about 30 crew members working on the project, including electricians and plumbers.
They hope to finish it by July 2013.
