Noisy nuisance: neighbors complain about nightly fireworks

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Neighbors in one Wilmington community are complaining about a noisy nuisance.

Those living in the Holly Tree and Pine Valley communities tell us they're seeing and hearing fireworks every night. Sarah Higgins said someone is setting them off at all hours of the night.

"You'll hear one and you don't hear anything else," she said. "A couple hours later, you'll hear another one. They are coming from different sides of the neighborhood. I just don't know where they're coming from. I don't mind people celebrating, having a good time but two weeks solid, it's starting to get a little ridiculous."

Several other neighbors told us they've been hearing the booms.

In North Carolina, fireworks that explode or project into the air are illegal.

Wilmington police say they haven't received many noise complaints from the neighborhood.

Higgins said she has not called police because she doesn't want to distract them from more important work.

She hopes the person setting them off stops, so she and her family can sleep better at night.
