WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Although Wilmington residents will likely get an up-close-and-personal look at the production of ‘Under the Dome', they'll also get more options to watch the finished product because of a new deal announced by CBS and Amazon.
The content licensing agreement is something to note because most series shown on Netflix or Amazon are from past seasons. This new agreement allows Amazon Prime members to watch an episode from ‘Under the Dome' four days after it airs on CBS. This is about as real-time as it gets, at least for now. This agreement also allows CBS to reach new viewers and essentially, make more money.
Brad Beale, the Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon, says it's exciting to add a current season major network TV series to the PIV library. It "enables us to increase our exclusive selection of great TV shows and give customers access how, when and where they want to watch it."
‘Under the Dome' is a TV series based on a 2009 Stephen King novel with the same name. The show will be produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. It takes place in a small New England town that is suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by transparent dome.
The series has set up production in Wilmington, NC, and it will premiere on CBS in June.
Just last week, Amazon announced that Prime Instant Video will soon become the exclusive online subscription home for PBS' hit show Downton Abbey. The PIV video library now claims to have more than 36,000 movies and TV episodes.
