Partnership integrates education on latest updates in HIPAA, PCI compliance and data security into 4Med Pro Training program
Chicago (PRWEB) February 12, 2013
Healthcare information technology (HIT) company EMRapproved has partnered with VigiTrust, a global leader in security assessments and cloud-based learning, to expand its Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance-related online educational offerings. VigiTrust’s HIPAA training programs, designed for healthcare professionals, are now available via EMRapproved’s 4Med Pro Training professional education and certification website.
Alarmingly, 94 percent of healthcare organizations responding to a Ponemon Institute survey on patient privacy and data security experienced a data breach in 2011 or 2012. Federal regulations such as HIPAA are designed as a safeguard, but memorizing and adhering to guidelines can be a daunting task. VigiTrust’s online security training programs are designed to help clarify HIPAA compliance, Payment Card Industry (PCI) guidelines and other government and industry regulations affecting healthcare.
“While HIPAA was enacted over 16 years ago, the rule was strengthened as part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. As a result, enforcement has stepped up dramatically,” said Kevin Donnelly, chief executive officer of EMRapproved. “All healthcare employees who come into contact with protected health information (PHI) must receive training and maintain documentation of that training. We’re proud to deliver VigiTrust’s online content through our robust online learning platform, providing healthcare organizations and related companies the opportunity to satisfy the workforce requirement in an efficient and cost-effective manner.”
HIT professionals will benefit from accessing the training via EMRapproved’s expanding 4Med Pro Training certification and continuing education programs, which are designed to retrain workers in an industry with a large number of vacancies, educate HIT workers and other healthcare practitioners in the Meaningful Use of EMRs and teach compliance with regulations such as HIPAA. A unique aspect of 4Med Pro Training courses is that many include student access to a working EMR solution, certified by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, to incorporate hands-on learning. VigiTrust’s involvement in educational material development is another nod to EMRapproved’s commitment to incorporating real-world tools and expertise in a risk-free, non-clinical environment.
"VigiTrust believes that personal health information protection requires employees to be educated on an ongoing basis,” said Mathieu Gorge, CEO of VigiTrust. “This strategic partnership with EMRapproved fulfills the market need in the United States and abroad. By integrating VigiTrust into EMRapproved platforms, we can ensure that the current and next generation of HIT workers and clinicians alike safeguard PHI as a part of the way they do business, treating security as a priority and not an afterthought.”
VigiTrust’s HIPAA online training is available as a standalone offering on the 4Med Pro Training learning management system and included in bundled HIPAA compliance and security programs offered by EMRapproved and its reseller partners. Courses are also available as part of complete career bundles for various fields, including medical IT support, office management and inside sales. 4Med Pro Training courseware is approved for CEU and continuing education in association with EMRapproved and Corexcel. The program also offers government-approved veteran retraining through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through its partnership with the CareerBoss, LLC.
EMRapproved’s partnership with VigiTrust builds on the company’s recent focus on developing their HIT security resource offerings through content and curriculum development. The company recently launched a weekly column called HITSecurity that keeps HIT professionals updated on the latest in data security, demystifying regulations and focusing on the most current news and guidance.
VigiTrust and EMRapproved will be exhibiting at the RSA Conference, the world's leading information security conference and exposition, in San Francisco February 25 - March 1 and again at HIMSS13 in New Orleans, March 3 - 7.
