'Under The Dome' film crew shows interest in Porters Neck home

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - According to Charles Jones, with Charles Jones Realty, Monday he put up a for sale sign at this house off Country Haven Dr. in Porters Neck and the next day he received a call from Screen Gems that producers and a director for Under The Dome are interested in filming there.
Jones says a film scout came out to the property Tuesday. He was told producers have looked at 60 properties for Under The Dome, but haven't found what they're looking for.
He was told Wednesday they've narrowed the list down to three locations.
Jones says although this house isn't in the top three, he's told it's still being considered and will likely be put on a list for future filming. They start filming Feb. 28.
According to Mark Boyer with New Hanover County, Under The Dome was considering the old courthouse downtown, but the county was told the building is too big and beautiful.
Boyer tells us the movie The Remaining will be filming at the county library downtown in the beginning of March.
He says WASTEC, the library and the old courthouse are three popular places film crews always show interest. He said about 10 years ago county officials decided to drop any film fee film crews would have to pay in order to film in county owned places.
Boyer also says when they film in county places, crews are so accommodating and work around what county workers are doing.
