Rep. Mike McIntyre is one of 26 Democrats named to get help in the 2014 election cycle
WASHINGTON, DC (WECT) – Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC7)
is one of 26 party incumbents included in the Democratic Congressional Campaign
Committee's "Frontline Program".
According to the DCCC, the program is designed to assist the candidates
in the 2014 election "by supporting and expanding their fundraising and
outreach operations".
"Under the leadership of Representative Tim Walz, the
Frontline Program will multiply Members' strengths, and make sure they are
positioned to compete and win – so they can continue to address the problems
facing America's middle class," DCCC Chairman Steve Israel said in a news
release.
According to Politico.com, "there will also be a heavy focus on providing help with fundraising.
President Barack Obama has promised to raise money for the House Democratic
campaign arm, and party officials say some of that cash will be directed to the
vulnerable members."
Rep. McIntyre has already been mentioned by the National
Republican Congressional Committee as being "targeted for attention"
in 2014. In a
January email sent to media, the NRCC included a "memo" from its
Executive Director, Liesl Hickey, which identifies McIntyre's 7th District as
one that "got even better for Republicans last year".
McIntyre
won re-election over his challenger, state Sen. David Rouzer, by less than 1700
votes out of more than 330,000 cast. It was one of the closest margin of any
Congressional race in the 2012 General Election, and the closest race of McIntyre's
career since winning the seat in 1996.
