Astronaut talks leadership with UNCW students

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –UNCW was the site of an astronaut landing Monday night.
The first woman to pilot a space shuttle - Colonel Eileen Collins was the key note speaker this evening. It's all part of the continued learning series at UNCW.

She talked about leading in an environment of high importance where failure is not an option. Through personal stories collins explained how she led her team. She explained three areas where we can all improve their leadership abilities.

"Three of the main lessons learned are, being a better listener, being more humble, and being more creative---creative in your daily thinking as well as innovation," she said.

Colonel Collins commanded the first shuttle mission after the explosion of the Columbia. She says she could have turned down the mission no questions asked, but chose to be a leader instead.
