PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Pender County Commissioners will
discuss two items at their meeting Monday afternoon that deal with the Pender
County Animal Shelter.
The shelter has been in the news recently, after failing an
inspection report allegations of possible criminal behavior came to late at a
recent Commissioner meeting.
The State Bureau of Investigation said they are now looking
into the matter to see if any laws were broken.
Commissioners will decide if they should spend over $20,000
to equip the shelter with security cameras and a door access control system.
Currently, there is no security in place and County Manager Mickey Duval hopes
the addition of these features can help cut down with the problems.
Commissioners will also vote on establishing an Animal
Shelter Advisory committee to assist with recent issues. The committee would
consist of a county commissioner, the health director, and other citizens.
Commissioners have received nine applicants for the two citizen positions.
