WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An employee with the Forest Hills Food Mart was trying to follow the get-away car for people who had allegedly just robbed the convenience store.

According to police, two men are accused of robbing the food mart just before 10:00 Thursday night.

Police say one of the men had a gun and both wore shirts over their heads. They demanded to know where the safe was located.

According to officials, one of the store employees grabbed a box cutter razor and tried to cut the unarmed man, but the man with the gun intervened and the employee stopped fighting with the unarmed male.

The employee who tried to follow the get-away vehicle told authorities they left in a vehicle heading north on Kenwood and then east on Chestnut Street. They said the robbers drove away in a green Volkswagen with damage on the front driver's side door.
