WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – SABLE guided a K-9 unit from the Wilmington Police Department to a suspect accused of breaking and entering a convenience store on Wrightsville Avenue overnight.

According to police, officers responded to an alarm at the Buffaloes grocery store and saw three people running from the business into the woods to escape.

SABLE was able to direct a K-9 unit to one of the suspects, 16-year-old Guthrie William Sharkey, who was hiding under a bush in the wooded area behind the business and bit him in the face.

Sharkey was taken to the hospital for treatment before being booked in the New Hanover County Jail.

Sharkey was charged with breaking and entering, hinder and delay, and larceny.

WPD detectives are continuing the investigation.
