The Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights are headed to the state championship, after a 5-2 victory over Westminster in the state semifinals Wednesday.
Casey Kincheloe added to her all-time goals total with two more in the first half, to give the Knights a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second, it was Casey's sister, Haley, adding to the Knight lead.
With 38 minutes to go, a free ball landed at the feet of Kincheloe just outside the box. She made one move then stuck a left-footer into the upper corner to make it 3-1 Lady Knights.
Westminster responded less than 60 seconds later though, when Anna Puckett perfectly placed a free kick just over the reach of the DWS keeper to make it 3-2.
Aly Joslin's team didn't let the defending state champs build any momentum, however.
With 12 minutes remaining, Casey Kincheloe struck again, driving one off the hands of the Westminster keeper and into the back of the net.
Lady Knights forward Cheyenne Colvin added one more goal late as DWS pulled away for a 5-2 victory.
Joslin said he and his team knew they had the game all along.
"From the moment we got to school this morning, the moment we left practice last night, every single one of us knew we were going to come out and win this game tonight," he says. "One of the big things overall all season is we don't lose at home, and we haven't lost at home. That was the last thing I said before the game to the girls. What can you say? Absolutely amazed."
Deerfield will play in the state title game next Saturday.
