A Pender County man was convicted of a robbery he committed last year in Wilmington.

Cornelius Demetric Griffin, 27, was accused of an apparent stabbing and robbery that happened around 1:45 a.m. Saturday May 25, 2013.

Lt. Mary Green with the Wilmington Police Department said was wanted for armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Authorities said a woman gave the suspect a ride to the 4200 block of Birchwood Drive inside Birchwood Park Apartments.

When they arrived, Griffin pulled out a knife, cutting the woman on her hand.

Court records show the woman was able to free herself from Griffin with the assistance of a witness. Griffin then took off with her car, a 1999 green Toyota Camry. He was arrested three days later in Charlotte.

After two hours of deliberation, jurors found Griffin guilty of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Judge Jay Hockenbury ordered Griffin to undergo a 90-day evaluation before being sentenced for the robbery. He will be in court for sentencing October 13, 2014.
