RALEIGH, N.C. (WECT) – Senator Kay Hagan holds a comfortable lead over most potential challengers in the latest Public Policy Polling survey of candidates in North Carolina.

Hagan, who is up for re-election in 2014, holds a double-digit lead over eight candidates who could battle for the Republican nomination. In a survey of 600 voters done between July 12th – 14th, Hagan's closest challengers were Phil Berger, the current state Senate President Pro Tempore, and Greg Brannon, a physician from Cary. Both trail Hagan 49-39 in head-to-head polling matchups. Hagan also leads current state House Speaker Thom Tillis 49-38 and Congresswoman Virginia Foxx 49-37.

Foxx also leads the field of possible Republican candidates in the latest PPP survey. The Fifth District Representative got 16% of the responses, followed by Berger, Jim Cain and Renee Ellmers getting 11% each. Tillis finished sixth in that list at 6% , behind Brannon's 7% total.
