According to town officials in Chadbourn, there is a lot of standing water in the area.
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT/WAVE) - More mosquitoes are buzzing around the area due to the large amount of rain we've recently seen.
Connie Mendel, an environmental health administrator in Kentucky says a little rain can be a good thing to get rid of mosquitoes, but too much rain can be a problem, especially in areas that tend to flood - like many areas in Chadbourn.
Employees with the Chadbourn's public works department will spray the area for mosquitoes around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. Officials say they have to spray so early due to the humidity and wind.
They will also be placing mosquito cakes, which dissolve in water and releases chemicals that will kill the insects, in standing water.
Officials say since it has rained so much in June, they couldn't spray for mosquitoes and that has also contributed to more bugs.
If you are constantly attracting mosquitoes, there could be a scientific reason for it. Mendel has seen some studies that say that pregnant women are mosquito magnets and that the blood suckers love it when you exercise.
According to Mendel, there are studies that show the insects are drawn to a certain blood type. If you are type O, you are more likely to be bit than type A. If you have type B blood, you are somewhere in the middle.
