Joy Ducree Gregory performs in Opera House Theatre Company's production of 'Hello Dolly.'
SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - A Wilmington favorite is headed back to Southeastern North Carolina after being on tour.
Joy Ducree Gregory has frequently been on the road as part of the four-woman cast of GRITS (Girls Raised in the South): The Musical. The show celebrates all things southern through stories, original songs and quotations from the famous GRITS books.
The "GRITS gals" have toured the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
Now Gregory will perform her role as Florence on a stage much closer to home.
On Friday, August 30, GRITS: The Musical starts a three-day run at the Amuzu Theatre in Southport.
"I have had the pleasure of performing with the GRITS gals for almost two years now," said Gregory in a news release. "After having toured in numerous cities throughout the Southeastern states, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to perform so close to home. These women are not just talented performers, they have become dear friends. Y'all come out now! Ya hear?"
Gregory has been seen on stage in Wilmington in such productions as Opera House Theatre Company's Hello Dolly and Hairspray and City Stage's The Color Purple.
Erica McGee wrote and produced GRITS: The Musical, as well as stars in it. This is her first performance on the Carolina Coast.
