WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Thalian Hall is turning into somewhere that's green.

Opera House Theatre Company is rounding out its season with Little Shop of Horrors, the popular send-up to "B" horror movies.

It's the tale of Seymour, a nerdy florist, who encounters a new species of plant.  The plant, named Audrey Two after the woman Seymour loves, helps him rise to fame and get the girl, but it comes at a price since the plant has an appetite for blood.

"It doesn't take itself too seriously," said Kenneth Rosander who plays Seymour. "It's a really fun musical with just catchy music and a really great story at its core."

One of Rosander's main co-stars, Audrey Two, is a puppet.

"It's been a really great challenge sort of getting to emote with something that's not technically alive, but when you're in that moment and with the puppeteer that we have, it's like being with another actor on stage."

Little Shop of Horrors was made into a movie in the 1980's starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.  The cast says lovers of the film won't be disappointed by the musical.

"It's really similar in some ways, but there are some definite big changes that people may not expect that really make it a little more gritty maybe sometimes and other times more campy and over the top," said Rosander.

The story has been a favorite of audiences over the decades and has a special place in this casts' hearts.

"This cast has just put their entire heart into it," said Rosander. "I've not been with a cast that has just been so committed to bringing the story to life and it's just really powerful to see that on stage."
