WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - City leaders met with builders, developers and other community stakeholders Friday to look into Wilmington's future housing needs at the 2013 Wilmington Housing Summit.
Mitchell Silver, chief planning officer and development director for the City of Raleigh and president of the American Planning Association, was among the keynote speakers.
Issues on the agenda included meeting the needs of the projected population of Wilmington and the surrounding area, which will include more single parent families and retirees.
Silver's presentation included data projections for area populations. He says by 2023, the Hispanic population is projected to triple in North Carolina.
Silver also stated that more diverse populations and aging generations will impact the housing needs of the entire state.
