Teachers protested outside of Hoggard High School when Gov McCrory visited
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –
Teachers from around the state protested outside of Hoggard High School today,
as Governor Pat McCrory visited the school. McCrory made an announcement at Hoggard
concerning school safety reform.
The group of teachers was
protesting cuts made in the education budget. Teachers say they aren't getting
the resources they need to properly educate their students.
Lynn Shoemaker protested
chanting, "You [Gov. McCrory] failed our public school system we give you
an F. We need you to go back and do this over. This is important."
North Carolina ranked
number 46 in teacher pay rates last year. Shoemaker says the group will remain
active and continue to attend moral Mondays in Raleigh until chances are made.
