A jury convicted Derrick Robinson of raping young sisters.
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man convicted of raping two girls, who were ages 10 and 12 at the time, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
According to prosecutors in Columbus County, Derrick Robinson, 42, was found guilty of three statutory rape charges involving a 12-year-old victim. He was also found guilty on three first degree sex offenses involving a girl who was 10. The victims are sisters.
Prosecutors said Robinson abused the two from July 2008 to September 2009, while he was dating their mother, who lived in Tabor City.
According to prosecutors, Robinson was serving time in a Florida prison for felony larceny when he was arrested for the sex charges against the minors.
They say, before he was sent to prison, he emailed the victims. That's apparently how their mother learned of the abuse and she alerted authorities.
Robinson was sentenced to spend 162 to 198 years in prison.
