WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Police in Wilmington are investigating two crimes that could be related, sending one man to the hospital.

Workers at the Emergency Room at New Hanover Regional Medical Center called police when an attempted robbery victim arrived at the hospital for treatment.

According to Lt. Blanton, with the Wilmington Police Department, at 6:05 p.m., Shot Spotter picked up a shots fired call in the 1400 block of Greenfield Street.

When police got there, they found a woman had been robbed. She was not injured, but she said that a male got out of the passenger side of a car and started pulling on her door, demanding money while pointing a gun. She handed over her wallet, and the man left firing shots out the window.

The vehicle was a white Cadillac Escalade truck being driven by a black man with dreadlocks. A white male passenger in his 20s with blond hair was also with him, and he, too had a gun.

A short time later, police were called to 1400 S. 7th St., where two suspects fired gunshots into a car in an apparent attempted robbery.

The victim drove himself to the hospital with injuries from being pistol whipped, according to Lt. Blanton. ER workers called the police to investigate. Officers said the man's car, which is at the hospital, has one of its rear passenger window's busted out from the shooting. No word on his condition. Officers have not released his name.

Evidence from the first robbery was found at the scene of the second crime. However, when officers talked to the victims, the descriptions of the suspects were different.

Police are investigating and trying to determine if the crimes are related.
