WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Hammerheads will play under new majority ownership, but remain under David Irving.
In a tweet the team announced, "UPDATE: Many have inquired about our location under new ownership. Fans, we will still remain in #ilm under the coaching of David Irving," @WilmHammerheads.
WECT's John Smist just spoke with Bill Rudisill, previous owner, who confirmed a deal was completed that gives majority ownership to George Altirs. Rudisill will remain on the board with the team as a minority owner, after thirteen years with the team.
"I am excited, yet emotional, to sell the club and take a lesser ownership role," said Rudisill. "As a minority owner I will continue my involvement with the club as in the past, but with a smaller financial stake. I wanted the right person to come along for the Hammerheads. After talking with George (Altirs) over the last few weeks, I believe the Hammerheads have a very bright and promising future. George, I feel, will continue with great success."
THE NEW OWNER
George Altirs is the CEO at Capelli New York, as majority owner. Altirs is co-founder of GMA Accessories Inc. which manufactures and imports apparel, footwear, and fashion accessories for women and children.
Altirs says, "The opportunity to partner with Bill Rudisill and the Wilmington Hammerheads brings exciting possibilities." He continued, "The Wilmington Hammerheads is a club with great tradition and history through its active years. I am looking forward to becoming involved within the Wilmington community and helping with the continued development of the Wilmington Hammerheads both on and off the field."
According to the Secretary of State website, Altirs filed paperwork to form a company last Friday called, Wilmington Professional Soccer LLC.
The address for Wilmington Professional Soccer LLC is listed at 420 Raleigh Street, Suite E which is the current address for the Hammerheads. All current front office staff will continue to run the daily business operations.
