WASHINGTON, DC (WECT) – Both of the Congressmen who represent parts of southeastern North Carolina voted for

House Joint Resolution 59, the proposal to fund the government without the necessary funding to implement President Obama's Affordable Care Act, which is commonly called "Obamacare". Rep. Mike McIntyre (NC-7) and Rep. Walter B. Jones (NC-3) joined the majority in passing the proposal by a vote of 230-189.

McIntyre, the nine-term Democrat from Lumberton, is one of only two Democrats to join with Republicans in today's House vote. "My record on the health care law has been crystal clear – I voted against it when it was first considered, have voted to repeal it dozens of times, and today voted to defund it," McIntyre said in an email statement. "The need for health care reform is clear, but this law is not the right approach for our citizens, communities, and businesses."

Jones, the Republican from Farmville serving his tenth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, has also voted against "Obamacare" in every instance. "Every day, we see more examples of how the ill-conceived Obamacare law will hurt American families," Jones said in an email statement from his office.  "It is time for the Senate to listen to their constituents and stop this train wreck."

"Among many other crucial services, it is essential that we honor our senior citizens, veterans, and men and women in uniform by ensuring there is no delay in their monthly retirement checks, health care coverage, or military benefits," McIntyre added in his statement.  "Keeping our government operational is vital and today's vote does that."
