DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A suspected gang member who took off from authorities Thursday afternoon near Mayfaire, leading to a full-scale search that lasted several hours, has been caught. Nahun Funez Maldonado was arrested Monday.

Nahun Funez Maldonado

Nahun Funez Maldonado, was wanted for communicating threats on a law enforcement officer with the sheriff's office in Duplin County, according to officials. Authorities are taking those threats very seriously since the suspect is a confirmed member of the notoriously violent MS 13 gang.

He was also wanted for a 2003 warrant for injury to personal property.

Deputies in Duplin County have charged Marlon Maldonado Funez on a charge of communicating threats against another individual, according to the Duplin County Sheriff's Department. Maldonado was turned over to authorities in Duplin County after his capture in Wilmington.

Both men have prior charges against them and both were deported at one time. Federal authorities will decide whether to press charges against them for returning to the country illegally.

The men were working as contractors in the private community of Landfall. Authorities called the search off late Thursday for the second suspect.
