WASHINGTON, DC (WECT) – Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC07) says a group of "about 100 members of the House & Senate" are meeting to try to keep the government open and avoid a possible shutdown.

McIntyre called the group the "No Labels Coalition", and says the group is willing to go around the leadership of both parties to bring a measure up for a vote to fund the federal government.  "All they (the leadership) are doing is talking past each other, and people are sick of it," said McIntyre in a phone interview after the Senate stripped a measure from a House bill to delay Obamacare for one year. "There is, and rightly so, an outcry that we don't need to have the government shut down. We want to go ahead and get a vote to keep the government open, and all these other issues will need to be debated."

McIntyre said about 35 of the 100 or so members of the "No Labels Coalition" plan to meet again later Monday afternoon. He said there are nearly an even number of Republicans and Democrats in the group. McIntyre said Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC11) met as part of the group earlier today, and Rep. Renee Ellmers  (R-NC02) is also a member of the group.

"A lot of us are fed up with the posturing going on by the leadership of both parties," McIntyre said. "We have been meeting outside the leadership trying to talk some common sense. If we can get a groundswell of support on the floor (of the House and Senate) we are not going to sit around on the agenda to be spewed forth from the leadership of either party."

McIntyre admitted it will be a challenge to get any proposal or legislation past the leadership and to the floor for a vote.

"The hour has arrived for there to be more commonality in working together," he said from Washington, DC.
