Veilands not reflecting on record yet; earns 226th win

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Darton State head women's soccer coach Ken Veilands isn't reflecting on his career win total.

Not yet at least.

Veilands added another to the total Monday night with a 6-0 win over ABAC in Tifton, the 226th of his career.

With a 7-0 win over Polk State Saturday, Veilands became the winningest coach in GCAA history.

It's a great honor says Veilands, and certainly one he'll reflect on when the time is right.

But that time isn't right now he says.

"After the game Saturday, it really was about, 'Alright now we have to get ready for ABAC,'" Veilands says. "At the end of the season, that's when all that will kind of come back around."

Veilands passed former Young Harris women's coach Kathy Brown on the all-time list.

It's fitting the 14-year head coach says because when he started the program, the Mountain Lions were the team he aspired the Lady Cavs to be.

"I looked at the competition and Young Harris at the time was the bench mark. And we elevated our level to their level, which put us on the national level," Veilands says. "That's kind of the way I feel about it. As we continue to have success, the bar gets higher, and we just keep going with that bar."

With Monday's win, the Lady Cavaliers are 11-1 on the season.

They travel to Douglas Thursday at 3 p.m. to take on South Georgia College.

They return home Friday to host Mississippi Gulf Coast.
