WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department have made another arrest in connection to a homicide that happened earlier this month.

According to Linda Rawley with the WPD, officers have Ramaj Walker in custody at this time, who was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force on Farley Road Thursday night.

WPD officials announced Thursday that they had arrested Nicholas Bannerman, 20, in connection to the homicide that happened late Tuesday night.

Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and investigators made the announcement during a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Bannerman and Walker, who are accused of killing 51-year-old Angelo Freeman in his home Tuesday night during what police describe as a robbery that went bad, will face several charges, including first degree murder.

Police say Freeman died from three gunshot wounds that happened between 9:30 and 10:00 Tuesday night. Police say he was struck once in the leg, once in the chest, and it is unclear where the third bullet hit the victim.

According to officials, a neighbor saw Freeman's door open early Wednesday morning and walked in to find him unconscious in the home. The neighbor walked in the house to check on the man because he says Freeman had a stroke in the past.

Arrest warrants say Bannerman leaked "natural gas into the dwelling with the oven element on and operating with a flammable paper towel on the burner."

The warrant explains that this act would likely result in the burning of the home and says it was "done voluntarily and without excuse or justification."

According to the warrants, Bannerman also took marijuana and about $100 from the home.

All of these factors lead authorities to believe this incident could have been a robbery that went wrong.

Walker is being charged with the following: first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree burglary, attempted first degree arson, first degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Bannerman is being charged with first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree burglary, attempted first degree arson, first degree kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Bannerman is also being charged with armed robbery in connection to an incident that happened at the Exxon Gas Station on Market Street on August 30.

Bannerman is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center with no bond.

Police say this was not Bannerman's first run-in with the law. He was also arrested in November 2012 for armed robbery.  The chief says Bannerman was affiliated with gangs, but at this time he does not believe the murder was gang related, just a robbery gone wrong.
