WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Four more dolphins have been found
washed on area beaches, and all have been linked to the deadly morbilivirus.
The disease, which is similar to measles in humans, has already killed hundreds
of dolphins along the east coast.
Officials with the University of North Carolina Wilmington's
Marine Mammal Stranding Program confirmed that the dolphins that washed up this
month in Sunset Beach, Holden Beach, and two along the Onslow County beach had
the deadly disease.
